In the Room
Our room was large, clean and comfortable and I loved the view of the river.
The remote setting was lovely, but unless you had a car, the free shuttle was not always convenient.
The rooms were great. The location in relation to the park was excellent. All the staff was very friendly. Enjoyed sitting on the big deck. Laundry facility was clean and nice. Everything we needed was available.
Some times because of the large number of people coming and going at all hours there was a lot of noise. I am not sure what you could do to help this since it is the nature of guests.
Check in was quick. They had my folder all ready for me. My room was in a building that seemed new with very wide, open, brightly-lit hallways. The heat worked well, the room had a balcony. There were board games in a lounge area on the second floor and comfy couches on the first floor looking out on to the river. I had requested a rollerboard bed and it was delivered as promised. The location is only 6 miles south of Park entrance. I had my own car but for those that don't there is a free shuttle to the Park entrance and the various restaurants and shops just north of the Park entrance.
I didn't see a refrigerator in the room. Also no microwave. These are very minor criticisms.
Great location, firepit was nice, staff friendly and it was very convenient to have a sack lunch and to go breakfast if needed.
It was a very nice setting. Rooms and bath were clean. Staff helpful and we liked having the dining room and wonderful lounge nearby. We were traveling by car but it was nice not to have to travel elsewhere to eat.
We asked to be on a lwere level after we got there and were obliged but when we got to the room with our luggage we found it had not been cleaned. We were given another room immediately with an offer of help for our luggage.
The room was clean Staff were friendly and helpful Good dining options and gift shop Nice lobby for relaxing We had a nice view to the river and mountains across the carpark Block-out curtains in the room - a must in Alaskan summers!!
No elevators so had to haul luggage upstairs which is difficult for anyone with disability or injury, no offer to help with it Bathroom light in the room is also exhaust fan which is very noisy in middle of the night Tiny vanity basin in the room, not big enough for two people to use or to place bathroom items Toilet did not work properly but they fixed it without delay None of the above seriously impacted our stay which overall was very pleasant
location was on rived
rooms noisy food selection poor and overpriced papercups in rooms
Main lodge design and decoration
They insist on using Booked.net for their reservations and then don't offer all the room options that are available at the lodge. When arriving I saw my level of room choice with a balcony and when asked why I didn't get one of those for the price I paid, she said it was because I didn't ask. If you don't know that's an option for your price point, how would you know to ask? Also, their food/beverage prices were out of line even compared to the rest of Alaska. Also, Booked.net states on their reservation confirmation that no charges will occur until the hotel stay, but they took the money out of my account immediately. When I questioned it with 3 different agents I spoke with, they all insisted there was no charge made to my card because they couldn't find it in their system and that they DIDN'T charge until the hotel stay.....well, yes....they.....do..... When I suggested they get together with Booked.net to inform them to stop saying the charge won't occur until the stay, I was blown off, so the practice continues.
We liked the location - in a pretty spot by the river and not in "Glitter Gulch" at the Denali National Park entrance. Good ambience in the central lodge with lobby, cafe, bar, restaurant, gift shop etc all under one roof. Also nice outdoor deck overlooking river (with outdoor gas heaters). Helpful staff. Shuttle buses provided to Park and to 'town' - above-mentioned "Glitter Gulch".
No mountain views. Quite a large complex so lots of people around - we didn't mind this for our overnight stay in the peak of the high season but may not be the best for those who prefer solitude!
Like new. Clean. Comfortable. Some difficulty with parking, but no big deal. Prices seem unduly high to me for hotels in Alaska.
The location was great and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The beds are small and uncomfortable. The walls/ceiling/floors are paper thin and you can hear people around you at all hours of the day. There is also a lot if noise of your room is near a staircase.
It had a resort atmosphere and had very easy access to Denali. Even thought the rooms are not anything special, everything else is great. We particularly enjoyed the bar on the river. Marvelous!
Our room was not anything special, rather basic and small. But since we weren't there to spend time in the room, it didn't really matter. I'd come again in a minute.
It was not where we thought it was going to be...in the McKinley Village it was past a few miles.
Long way to parking car for loading-unloading
This is an old facility with high turn around of travelers, The rooms look good from the outside, however the carpet is old and the bathroom smells. I had to take the top bed spreed off and leave it in the corner because it looked so old and unwashed!. The next day the housekeeping staff replaced it with a white sheet. With renovation , paint, new carpet and upgrades in the bathroom -- this would be a great place to stay again and recommend it to family and friends.
